Sexual Safety, Safeguarding and Culture Change in Education

At Engendering Change, we support schools, colleges and universities to take a proactive, evidence-based approach to sexual safety, safeguarding and respectful relationships.

Our work helps education settings move beyond reactive responses to incidents, embedding clear expectations, shared language and a culture where young people feel safe, respected and able to speak up.

Our training supports statutory expectations around safeguarding and sexual safety, helping schools and colleges respond to and prevent harmful sexual behaviour, promote respectful relationships and reduce risk at every level.

Our work in education has informed our broader approach to preventing harm, strengthening boundaries and embedding respectful cultures across organisations.

Our Approach

We deliver age-appropriate, inclusive and trauma-informed training that reflects the real experiences of young people today – both online and offline.

Our programmes are designed to:

  • prevent peer-on-peer sexual abuse and harmful sexual behaviours

  • challenge misogyny, coercion and unsafe norms

  • strengthen safeguarding confidence among staff

  • support statutory duties around RSE, PSHE and wellbeing

  • create consistent messages across the whole school or institution

This work is preventative, practical and rooted in safeguarding, not shock or sensationalism.

“I love this. It really opened my eyes and changed my whole way of thinking around sex education. Education is power. Thank you for highlighting this. ”

What We Deliver

We work with students, staff, leaders and parents, offering:

  • Student talks and workshops on consent, boundaries and respectful relationships

  • Staff training on recognising risk, responding to disclosures and professional boundaries

  • Whole-school approaches to sexual safety and inclusion

  • Parent sessions to support confident, consistent conversations at home

  • Strategic advice for leadership teams and safeguarding leads

Grounded in Safeguarding Practice

Our work is grounded in current safeguarding guidance and reflects how schools and universities are expected to respond to and prevent child-on-child sexual abuse, harmful sexual behaviour and misogyny. We support settings to move from reactive responses to preventative, whole-institution approaches that build staff confidence, reduce risk and promote a shared understanding of boundaries and responsibility.

Whole-School & Whole-Institution Change

We believe sexual safety cannot sit in one lesson, one policy or one person’s role.

Our work supports joined-up, whole-school approaches that align:

  • curriculum delivery

  • safeguarding practice

  • staff conduct and confidence

  • student voice and wellbeing

Experience & Credibility

Led by Jo Morgan, award-winning educator, author and safeguarding specialist, Engendering Change brings nationally recognised expertise in Relationships and Sex Education, inclusion and wellbeing.

Jo’s work in education laid the foundations for her later work in workplaces – driven by the same issues of power, boundaries, silence and culture.

Who We Work With

We support:

Jo’s Book: Empowering Relationships and Sex Education

Relationships and Sex Education is now statutory, yet many secondary schools and teachers continue to navigate uncertainty around content, confidence and consistency.

Empowering Relationships and Sex Education addresses common questions facing educators today, including how to approach topics such as inclusion, consent, sexual behaviour and gender respectfully, safely and effectively.

The book supports schools to understand statutory guidance as a baseline, not a ceiling, and explores how high-quality RSE can contribute to safeguarding, wellbeing and positive relationships. It focuses on equipping young people with the knowledge, language and critical thinking skills they need to navigate relationships, boundaries and pressure both online and offline.

Designed as a practical and accessible resource, this book provides a clear introduction to key areas within RSE and offers a strong foundation for developing programmes that respond to student need.

It is a valuable resource for RSE leads, teachers and school leaders seeking to strengthen provision with confidence and clarity.

Jo’s back on Natasha Devon’s LBC show

Jo Morgan is back on Natasha’s show to discuss the rise in child-on-child sexual abuse in schools.

The Guardian: Today In Focus

Jo Morgan tells Helen Pidd why she believes children should be getting more comprehensive sex education, not less. She reflects on the questions children ask her about sex, and why limited education on sex, health and relationships can leave children vulnerable to abuse and misinformation. She argues that the age cut-offs could leave children without an understanding of personal boundaries and having their periods starting before they have been taught what they are.
